Welcome back Sharks fans to this intrepid reporter’s take on his first second round playoff game in years and what a barn burner it was.  The Sharks exploded for 5 goals in the 3rd period to take the opening game of the second round, 5-2.  The Predators were coming off an emotional 7th game win against the hated Ducks of Anahymen and were looking to steal another road game.  Carrie Underwood’s husband, Mike Fisher got the Preds on the board first with a laser of a top shelf shot at 4:33 of the 2nd period.

San Jose exhibited a bit of rust in the opening stanza and the home town folks were grumbling a bit.  As the second period wore on, the Sharks began controlling the play down low and their cycle was generating chances but the Pekker, Preds goalie Pekka Rinne was up to the task.

As the crowd tensed up for the 3rd, the Preds Ryan Johansen was called for holding and the Sharks were on the power play.  Joel Ward fed Tomas Hertl, who made them pay with a nice stuff play along the right post past Rinne for the tying goal at 2:37 of the period. Ward scored the go ahead goal off of a brilliant play by Sharks super rookie Jonas Donskoi.  Ward skated in on Rinne and from below the goal line slammed it past the Pekker for a 2-1 Sharks lead.

San Jose continued to press and were rewarded with another power play late in the 3rd period.  Logan Couture scored a brilliant backhanded goal at the 15:40 for what became the winning goal.  Nashville would pull their goalie and get within one goal with about 90 seconds left but San Jose would answer with not one but two empty net goals to seal the deal 5-2!

The Sharks play today at 5 PM, I will be joining them as they continue their quest for their 1st Cup ever!!
